December means two things: the Mexico City E-Prix is next month, and awards season! Our current World Champion, Jake Dennis, has been kept very busy over the last few weeks accepting awards left, right and centre for his Season 9 campaign. The dominant display saw him stand on the podium 11 times in 16 races, breaking Formula E records in the process, to win his first title in the all-electric championship.

However, one event was that extra-bit special. The annual FIA prize-giving ceremony was hosted in Baku, Azerbaijan, and saw Dennis officially crowned champion.

Also in attendance were Envision Racing’s Nick Cassidy (now with Jaguar TCS Racing) who finished second in the drivers’ championship, as well as Jaguar’s Mitch Evans who came home in third.

The trio were celebrated for their incredible efforts and achievements in Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, as it embarked on the first year of GEN3. In one of the best seasons of racing the championship has seen yet, Dennis, Cassidy and Evans finished the year in the series’ podium positions.

Accepting their awards from Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds, the event was also attended by the likes of FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

“I’m really looking forward to next season,” Dennis said when picking up his spectacular trophy. “We are coming off the back of a great Season 9 with 11 podiums and two wins. To announce the new contract extension with Andretti seemed like the right thing to do. They're like family to me now.”

Also in attendance was Sylvain Filippi, the Managing Director of Envision Racing who won the Teams’ Championship. Their GEN3 machine was also wheeled out onto the stage to much applause, as they collected their World Championship award. By coincidence, both their Season 9 drivers were also there, as Cassidy finished in second and Sebastien Buemi was crowned a FIA World Endurance Racing champ as part of the #8 Toyota Gazoo Racing crew.
