The fifth edition of the program in Season 9 explored the digital, political and environmental transformation of cities and urban racing environments, unpicking the future challenges and highlighting the opportunities. Participants experienced insightful discussion, top political experts and industry-leading speakers alongside some senior representatives from the Formula E ecosystem.
Following the special address from His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco who has explained the role of sustainable innovation in transforming the sustainability agenda of global cities and Monaco in particular, Formula E Founder and Chairman, Alejandro Agag took the audience through the story of the Championship and its continuous purpose to reach the Net Zero Vision.
"Transition is the key word to me," stated Alejandro. "The regeneration of energy in a brand-new GEN3 car is a perfect example of how a technological shift can bring very concrete and measurable performance achievements within the Championship and beyond. Same principles can be transitioned to the electric cars of tomorrow."
Envision Racing Team Principal, Sylvain Filippi, continued the topic of the electric race car role in the energy transmission. "Emissions are mostly concentrated in cities. The role of Envision Racing is to show how quickly we can improve the technology and to give a glimpse into the future: more performant, more affordable, and safer electric cars can exist not only on track but in daily life of all car users. Cleaner mobility will change the carbon footprint in cities around the world."
Kari Ann Eik emphasized this idea saying that “Cities are the 'headquarters' of scalable innovation. To ensure that right forms of technologies are integrated into an urban environment, we need a strong collaboration between different sectors – innovators should work hand in hand with city leaders to accelerate the transition”.
Monaco government representatives, Virginie Hache-Vincenot and Frédéric Genta, responsible for Energy Transition and Digital Transformation respectively, demonstrated how latest technologies are already applied to public services to enhance the attractiveness of Monaco for its residence and foreign visitors.
All speakers agreed that the promotion of electrification is a part of the solution to continued economic growth and improved environmental sustainability. It also forms the core of Formula E’s technological innovation strategy and its commitment to accelerate sustainable human progress. This topic will be discussed further at the biggest Change.
