Nick de Vries (Mercedes-EQ) has been hit by a five-second penalty after his defence against Nick Cassidy (Envision Racing) towards the end of the SABIC London E-Prix Round 13 was deemed by race stewards to have contravened the regulations.
De Vries found himself under severe pressure from Cassidy as the final couple of laps arrived and set about keeping the Envision Racing driver at bay but his efforts were found to have been too much - the stewards adjudging him to have change direction repeatedly under braking. This leaves the Dutchman sixth, with Cassidy the beneficiary to the tune of third on the podium and some welcome silverware for the cabinet.
Importantly, Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing) also gains a spot, which could prove extremely valuable in his chase of Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes-EQ) in the Drivers' World Championship.
In addition, Lucas di Grassi (ROKiT Venturi Racing) had five seconds added to his race time for causing a collision with Robin Frijns (Envision Racing). That saw him demoted to 12th and sent Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche) into a net 10th and points.
Antonio Giovinazzi (DRAGON / PENSKE AUTOSPORT), Sebastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams), Robin Frijns (Envision Racing) and Jean-Eric Vergne (DS TECHEETAH) were also penalised.
