Di Grassi: "It's a good end to this chapter with this win."

The Shanghai E-Prix, Round 13, was a Formula E fairytale for Lucas di Grassi.

Over twelve seasons of racing in Formula E, we've learnt to expect the unexpected and the result of the 2026 Shanghai E-Prix, Round 13 was definitely one that nobody could've predicted!

Starting from the back of the grid, Lucas di Grassi and the Lola Yamaha ABT squad took a bold gamble on car setup at the start of the race which paid dividends and saw the Brazilian driver sail through the pack on a drying track to claim his 14th Formula E victory.

The 2016/17 champion duly used his remaining 50kW, all-wheel drive boost once the FCY ended to make up ground on the pair ahead, passing Eriksson at the hairpin on the penultimate lap as Vergne fought through to the lead - before dispatching the Citroen driver half a lap later at Turn 1, on the final lap, for the win.

This win feels especially emotional, as earlier this season it was announced that the 41-year-old would be retiring from professional racing at the end of the season.

"This win means a lot," Lucas explained. "It has been four years driving without a win. My last win was with Venturi in London. So it has been a lot of work, a lot of sacrifices to be on the top spot of this podium today.

"I don't think anybody believed we could do it. But at one point, you have to believe, and you have to push. And, you just have to take the right risks, or you have to take the risks at the right time and move forward."

REPORT: Di Grassi seals spectacular Shanghai E-Prix Round 13 win on final lap

That was a first trip to the top step of the podium since 2022 for di Grassi, who also won the very first Formula E race, also here in China back in 2014. He remains Formula E's oldest race winner at now 41 years 328 days old and he sets a new record as the series' oldest podium finisher.

Although this seems like the perfect end to his time in the all-electric championship, there's still four races remaining, and di Grassi is determined to end his career on a high.

"It's a long way, it's a great story," Lucas said. "12 years (in Formula E) and still winning races. (I've) still got it and it's a good end to this chapter with this win, but there is still four races to go. We're going to push very hard and see what we can do."
