Inside Formula E's historic move to Brands Hatch for 2026/27

A century of speed meets the future of all-electric racing, as Formula E heads to Brands Hatch for the 2026/27 season.

Brands Hatch Startline

The 2026/27 Formula E season welcomes three new tracks to the calendar: Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Brands Hatch and the MASCOT Zandvoort Circuit.

All three tracks have a rich motorsport history and distinct personalities, making them perfect destinations for the GEN4’s debut season.

SEASON 13 CALENDAR: Where will Formula E be racing in 2026/27

There’s few circuits in the world that are as universally loved as Brands Hatch, with spectators and drivers alike awed by the ‘roller-coaster like’ track that challenges drivers and punishes mistakes.

Situated in the picturesque county of Kent, various circuit configurations over the decades have taken advantage of the natural, undulating valley that encompasses the track, creating moments of motorsport history that have lived long in the memory.

With such a rich history, it’s unsurprising that a number of drivers on the grid have raced and won here. From Formula E’s only back-to-back champion, Jean-Eric Vergne, who competed at the track in 2010 on his way to becoming British Formula 3 champion, to Dan Ticktum who achieved back-to-back podiums at the circuit in 2015, as part of the MSA Formula Championship.

Formula E first raced in the United Kingdom back in 2015, during the inaugural season of the all-electric championship. Since then, London has hosted a race weekend seven times, initially at Battersea Park, before moving to the Excel London, which has been a fixture on the calendar since 2021.

GEN4 represents the start of a new chapter for Formula E, and it’s therefore fitting that Brands Hatch - which celebrates its centenary in 2026 - will enter its second century by welcoming global single-seater racing back to Kent.

Jeff Dodds, CEO, Formula E, said: "Entering the GEN4 era, Brands Hatch sits as a natural home for this new era of electric racing. It's a venue that holds a special place for me personally, having grown up nearby I used to ride my motorcycle here to watch racing, and I have always viewed it as an incredible, under-utilised circuit that I am sure will provide a thrilling setting for the British debut of GEN4 racing.

“Working closely with Jonathan Palmer and the MSV team, we’ve secured a long-term partnership that will see Formula E become a marquee event on such an iconic race track. We are incredibly excited to bring the future of electric racing to Brands Hatch, offering fans a unique opportunity to witness the full power of the next generation of electric racing in a truly historic setting."

Jonathan Palmer, MSV Chief Executive, said: “Formula E’s arrival at Brands Hatch in 2027 represents a major landmark for the venue, the championship and British motorsport. The impressive evolution of Formula E, with the GEN4 car delivering such a big step up in performance, means our iconic Grand Prix circuit can provide exactly the kind of challenge the championship deserves.

“The prospect of combining leading-edge automotive technology with one of the world’s most loved classic circuits is hugely exciting. I’m certain it will create a fantastic spectacle, broaden Formula E’s appeal, and help introduce the championship to many more traditional motorsport fans.

“Formula E has come of age, and its debut at Brands Hatch marks the start of a bold new chapter.”
