Antonio Felix da Costa (Jaguar TCS Racing) became the first and only driver to take more than one victory this season when he stormed to his 14th career win around the Circuito del Jarama.

Having started third, the 2019/20 Formula E Champion perfectly timed his PIT BOOST and ATTACK MODE activation to rise to the top of the pack. He was on the defensive across the final laps with challenges for the win from his teammate Mitch Evans, CUPRA KIRO’s Dan Ticktum, Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein and Mahindra Racing’s Edoardo Mortara

It made for blockbuster viewing, with the grandstands and grassy banks around the circuit packed to the brim with passionate Spanish fans. With Da Costa being Portuguese, and Lisbon a six hour drive from the capital city, he was surrounded by family and friends across the weekend.

Telling media ahead of the race weekend that he had more than 80 invited guests, and his own hospitality area nicknamed the ‘DAC SHACK’, it made for emotional scenes when he pulled up to celebrate with his support system after the win.

“Honestly, it's a dream day,” da Costa stated post-race. “To win in front of so much of my family, I mean they see me leave the house and come back, sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes healthy, sometimes not so healthy, and they only hear about it or we discuss it at the dinner table but they were here today and they don’t get to see me race. So to do it in front of them is just amazing, very happy with that and you know I am an emotional guy and today we just took it up a notch.”

Among the family was da Costa’s mother, who was proudly wearing her personalised merch and waving the Portuguese flag around the paddock.

“My mum is a real piece, you know. I am just so happy to see her enjoying it and happy to provide her with these moments, and everybody else. It was a busy week for me as I had to take care of all their tickets, all the merchandise, I had to do all of that myself, and so I am glad it paid off and everyone looked good and we can celebrate together now.”

It was the first time the Circuito del Jarama has hosted a Formula E Championship race, and it was received so well with nothing but positive comments coming from fans, drivers and teams alike.

HISTORY: Who are all the Formula E champions from Seasons 1 to 11?

“It was amazing, the track is so demanding for the drivers physically in terms of bravery. It is a real challenge, old-school, and we saw a lot of guys making mistakes today and paying a big price for it– that is what we like to see and winning the race here makes it even more special.”

Mitch Evans, da Costa’s Jaguar teammate, also finished in second to give the team their third one-two result in Formula E.

“Today was a truly special moment for everyone at Jaguar TCS Racing,” Ian James, Team Principal, added post-race. “A 1-2 finish at the first ever Madrid E‐Prix, is something the whole team can be immensely proud of. António delivered a superb drive under pressure, showing exactly why he’s such an asset to this team, and Mitch’s charge from P16 to P2 was nothing short of exceptional.

“These results don’t happen by accident however - they’re the product of meticulous preparation, bold strategy, and a team that believes in each other. We’ve built strong momentum in the opening phase of the season, and performances like today’s show what we’re capable of when everything comes together.”
