Chris Hemsworth: “It was good fun”

Chris Hemsworth: “It was good fun”

Hollywood super star Chris Hemsworth quite literally took the Formula E car for a spin during last weekend’s Qualcomm New York City ePrix.

The actor, who’s most famous for playing Thor in the Marvel Universe film franchise, is also an ambassador for TAG Heuer, and it was through his relationship with Formula E’s Official Timekeeping Partner, that he was given the opportunity to drive the SPARK SRT_01E.

After being given a run down of all the controls by Formula E regulars Nelson Piquet Jr and Daniel Abt, Hemsworth was taken for a high-speed tour of the track by Qualcomm Safety Car driver Bruno Correia in his BMW i8.

He then sampled the track for himself in the simulator with guidance from Formula E Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag before getting 15 minutes of track time to himself in the all-electric racer.

Hemsworth, who played 1976 World Champion James Hunt in the film Rush, pushed on and even had a quick spin as he explored his limits.

“It’s good fun,” he said. “It was nice to be out there on my own and cruise around. It was exhilarating and [I can] feel the adrenalin.

Speaking about the spin, he said: “I was a little too excited, just got a little over confident… I was just happy I found reverse and was able to get back going. It’s the first time I’ve done it, so that’s my excuse for all the mistakes I made!”
