Morocco's Michael Benyahia to test for Venturi

Morocco's Michael Benyahia to test for Venturi

Venturi Formula E today announced that Michael Benyahia will represent the team in the rookie test day after Round Three of the FIA Formula E Championship in Marrakesh on January 14, 2018.

As the reigning Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup champion, the 17-year-old has 46 karting wins under his belt alongside six podium finishes in the French F4 Championship.

"I’m well aware of the chance I’m being given," said Benyahia. "The Formula E championship is growing exponentially. As a result, it’s rare to get a drive. I’ll do everything I can, to repay the faith that Gildo Pastor and his teams have placed in me.”

In 2015, he joined the Autosport Academy run by the French motorsports federation - the FFSA - and in 2016, was selected to race in the French F4 Championship, where he finished third.

Having been with Venturi for three months, Benyahia has spent time on the simulator and with engineers. January 14 will be Benyahia's third time in Formula E car after he took part in a street demonstration ahead of the 2016 Marrakesh E-Prix and joined the team for pre-season testing in Valencia earlier this year.

“I am delighted to offer Michaël Benyahia the opportunity to drive again, and at home too," said Gildo Pastor, President of Venturi Formula E team. "This decision reflects my commitment to supporting Michaël in his career development.”

The official rookie test day - reserved for drivers new to Formula E - the day will see two drivers from each team test the cars under timed conditions. The day takes place in the wake of the main race on the Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan on January 13. Click here for tickets.
