FP3 REPORT: Frijns tops the timesheets in final practice in Misano

The Envision driver was six-tenths up on the best time from yesterday's free practice.

Envision Racing’s Robin Frijns topped the timesheets in the final practice session of the weekend, as he set the quickest lap time of the weekend with a 1m16.959s. Just behind him sat TAG Heuer Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein in second and NEOM McLaren’s Jake Hughes closed the top three.

Nick Cassidy of Jaguar TCS Racing had a better end to the morning free practice session compared to yesterday when he ended it in a barrier, finishing today’s in fourth. His teammate Mitch Evans, and Round 6 Julius Baer Pole Position holder, ended up just behind in fifth.

As it happened

Despite teams collecting plenty of data during yesterday’s Misano E-Prix race day, practice makes perfect and so the grid headed back out for FP3. All drivers got lap times in, but Mahindra Racing’s Nyck de Vries slowed whilst on track. He made his way back to the garage and got out later in the session to finish the session in ninth. It was a tough day for the Mahindra team yesterday as technical issues hampered Edoardo Mortara’s race day.

RESULTS: The 2024 Misano E-Prix Round 6

ABT CUPRA’s Nico Mueller topped the timesheets for a while in the middle of the 30 minute session, with the team looking to get more points on the board this weekend. Mueller made it through to the Duels yesterday for a third consecutive race, and his teammate Lucas di Grassi got his first points of the season during Round 6 in Misano when he was promoted to 10th following Antonio Felix Da Costa’s (TAG Heuer Porsche) disqualification.

We had a sign of some premature racing as Sacha Fenestraz (Nissan) and Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche) went side by side around the track, but no harm done as they both continued on their respective laps.

However, it was Robin Frijns who managed to go quickest. The Envision driver crossed the finish line in last and 18th yesterday, but moved up to 17th after post-race sanctions were applied. He’ll be hoping this is a sign of things to come as qualifying is up next.
