"The first one or two corners were so chaotic - there was so much contact and pushing on the side, from behind - from everywhere!" said BMW i Andretti Motorsport's Max Guenther moments after claiming his second points victory of the ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge in support of UNICEF.
"I survived it and I was really glad I was in front for the first three corners because it's not easy to survive through the chicane," added the German driver.
Despite starting the race in second place after failing to match the one-lap pace of Mercedes-Benz EQ driver Stoffel Vandoorne during Qualifying, Gunther slipped into the lead after Vandoorne clipped the inside of the chicane on Turn 1, significantly damaging his car.
Slipping through into the lead, the German led the way for the rest of the race, holding back advances from fellow countryman Pascal Wehrlein (Mahindra Racing), who came within inches of Guenther's rear diffuser.
The race win is the BMW driver's second points victory of the Race at Home Challenge, which places him at the front of the standings. With no one able to unseat Guenther from the top spot, the young BMW driver is off to a strong start in the battle for the virtual race title.
