Free Practice 3: Bird sets the morning pace in Red Hook

Red Hook had receieved more rain overnight after yesterday afternoon's weather-hit Round 11. The Brooklyn Street Circuit was wet-dry for much of the session but was mainly clear of standing water with only damp patches on the asphalt.

Temperatures were cool but the track came to drivers as they fired in their 250kW full-power runs towards the end of the running, with Bird firing in the quickest time of the session by some distance on a 1m08.745s, until race one winner Cassidy went within one tenth of a second after the team's overnight rebuild job following that heavy shunt that helped end Round 11 early.

Di Grassi looked to be doubling down on his strong pace so far in the Big Apple, with the third quickest time of the session. Antonio Felix da Costa went fourth, Jake Dennis fifth for home squad Avalanche Andretti and Mitch Evans made it two Jaguars in the top six.

Standings leader Edo Mortara found himself down in 13th with Stoffel Vandoorne just behind. Both title pacesetters failed to trouble the top of the timesheets but practice isn't all about pace as engineers and drivers look to dial in and run their own programmes.

FANBOOST

The votes for FANBOOST ahead of Round 12 so far sees an advantage for Mercedes-EQ's Stoffel Vandoorne. Season 6 champion Antonio Felix da Costa (DS TECHEETAH) is also in line for a boost alongside standings leader Edo Mortara (ROKiT Venturi Racing) and teammate Lucas di Grassi. Jean-Eric Vergne's the last of the five set for a 30kW bonus as it stands. The only one of the championship's top four drivers without FANBOOST at the moment would be Jaguar TCS Racing's Mitch Evans.
