Hear exactly what the drivers had to say about the race in Berlin

2018 BMW i Berlin E-Prix: the race in quotes

With Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler's Daniel Abt stealing the show in Berlin with a perfect race - claiming full points - and the team's first one-two win in their home race, it's difficult for any driver to top that performance.

Nonetheless, we walked the length of the paddock (many times over) to speak to the drivers and get their view on how things went. Scroll down below to read exactly what they had to say following the 2018 BMW i Berlin E-Prix.

1st - Daniel Abt, Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler

"A home race has always been on my checklist to win, and to finally do it with a one, two maximum points feels crazy, feels still a bit unreal but I loved every second of today.

"When I was growing up karting in Germany there was no race in Berlin and no Formula E but luckily someone invented the series, brought us here and gave me the chance - it's been an incredible day!

2nd - Lucas di Grassi, Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler

"Second, I think they Audi car today had a good advantage over the others - we were super fast and I think they could only challenge each other.

"I was just happy to bring it home and to finish this one-two...it's a dream come true for Audi and we started the year so bad and now, we are recovering and second in the championships as a team."

3rd - Jean-Eric Vergne, Techeetah

"It was good fun with Seb, I had to pass him two times in the race because of a slow pit stop but I’m very happy today, the two Audis were out of reach so, therefore, I knew from the beginning of the race that the target was second place, that’s why I took it easy at the beginning and then went back to push.

"I've been racing four weekends in a row with three wins, one podium and extending my championship lead, why should I not be relaxed?

"Zurich is a new track for everybody, so it might be a bit of an advantage for us, I’m just going to try and do the best I can as usual and not think too much about points or championship or whatever."

Bad day at the office for - Nelson Piquet Jr. Panasonic Jaguar Racing

"We had no pace all day and we qualified badly. The race could have been a bit better, obviously, I was taking a bit of a risk at the end and ended up going wide in the first corner and lost a few positions there but it was already the last lap, so there was nothing less I could do.

"We need to find out why we’re slow on this track, what happened and make sure we try to recover towards the end of the season because we’ve been struggling the last couple of races. It's very different from the first part of the season, so we really need to know if it’s because we didn’t evolve or if the other ones are evolving more than us. If so, we’re doing something wrong."

Fighting on through - Andre Lotterer, Techeetah

"It was a new experience for me, starting from the back and passing a lot of cars so I feel confident I can save energy, use it and overtake.

“Obviously it’s a track where you can do that but it was patience game and I put a lot of energy to the side at the beginning, saved my tyres and then I just took them one by one. Even though I had to sit in the pits for ten seconds, which was part of my Paris penalty, I was able to come back again and finished ninth in the points, it’s the best we could have done honestly.”
