Bloom and DiCaprio star on the streets of Marrakesh

We catch up with Orlando Bloom after his lap at the 2018 ABB FIA Formula E Marrakesh E-Prix

Bloom and DiCaprio star on the streets of Marrakesh

The ABB FIA Formula E Championship has had its fair share of famous faces through its gates in the past. After former Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg did the rounds in Hong Kong after declaring he was "definitely interested" in joining the series, Round Three saw Orlando Bloom and Leonardo DiCaprio get to grips with all-electric racing in the streets of Marrakesh.

Alongside Bloom was friend and Chair of Formula E's Sustainability Committee, DiCaprio who was spotted catching up catching up with reigning champion Lucas di Grassi. After celebrating Bloom's 41st birthday with a party at the Armanjena Hotel - complete with a Formula E car cake, of course - Bloom headed down to the Circuit Moulay El Hassan on Saturday to get some tips from fellow Brit and DS Virgin Racing's Sam Bird before hitting the track in the all-electric Formula E test car. Catching up with him on the grid after his lap, he told us all about his - slight - bump in the car, why he's going electric and what he thinks about the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.

So, you’ve had some time to have a look at everything ABB FIA Formula E has to offer – what do you think to it all?

The exciting thing about this is obviously the technology they're developing with the cars on the track today, which obviously is moving at a very rapid pace and will have an impact on everything we can see at home. It's just amazing.

I've always loved cars - I've especially always loved fast cars - and now it has a guilt-free capacity because you can enjoy all of that, whilst knowing that you're doing something that's going to have a good impact on the environment.

Do you fancy getting an electric car?

Absolutely. I've been waiting for the technology to get to a place where it's bulletproof and that's what Formula E is doing. The batteries are no longer an issue, so now it's about infrastructure and charging stations. If you imagine you can charge your car at home as fast as you can charge a Formula E car, then the knock-on effect is amazing.

Who do you think might win the championship?

I've got no idea! It's too early to tell.

What would you say to someone who was new to Formula E?

Well, I am the uninitiated and I've had a great time! I can't compare it to Formula 1 because I've never had the experience but I can tell you Formula E is a lot of fun.

You had a go in a car - how did you get on?

I did. I definitely pushed the car right to the limit as I took a little clip on the nose at the end! It's such an adrenaline rush, it's brilliant. I didn't exactly do what happened in New York but, hey - at least I was driving the car and the car wasn't driving me!
