Formula E championship protagonist Lucas di Grassi has praised the Berlin ePrix double header, which took place at the Tempelhofring last weekend.
The Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport star bagged a Julius Baer Pole Position and two podium finishes at he team’s home event, to cut Sebastien Buemi’s championship from 43 to 32 points.
“It was a great weekend, I think the event was amazing, the track was well designed,” he said. “We didn’t have the performance to match the Mahindra especially. But second place with a Julius Baer Pole Position and 21 points on Saturday and then another 15 points on Sunday [is good].
“We had better pace on Sunday, but we need to improve. There is still a couple of tenths we need to find to be able to fight with any of the Renaults on acceleration, where they are very strong. Behind Jean-Eric Vergne we could only really overtake because of the lift-off to save energy. If that was not the case it would have been impossible to overtake, he just opens two or three car lengths on acceleration.”
Di Grassi’s title charge continues at the inaugural New York City ePrix, which takes place on July 15/16.
