Di Grassi strikes first in Montreal

Di Grassi strikes first in Montreal

Lucas di Grassi got his Hydro-Quebec Montreal ePrix weekend off to the perfect start by setting the pace in the first free practice session.

Using 200kw qualifying power, the Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport driver established a new circuit record for the Montreal street track at 1:22.451. It meant he was over a second faster than any of his rivals, who were led by New York double race winner Sam Bird.

However, the DS Virgin Racing star only used 170kw race mode. Jean-Eric Vergne was third fastest for TECHEETAH, while points leader Sebastien Buemi was fourth fastest. Renault e.dams' defending champion used 200kw power too, but hit traffic in the final sector and backed off.

His team-mate Nico Prost was fifth fastest ahead of the impressive Mitch Evans in the Panasonic Jaguar Racing car, while Felix Rosenqvist, who like Bird still harbours slim title hopes, was seventh quickest for Mahindra.

The action resumes with the second practice session at 10.30am local time.
