Vernon Kay to host Channel 5 Formula E coverage

Vernon Kay to host Channel 5 Formula E coverage

Following the FIA Formula E Championship's debut on Channel Five last year, UK household name Vernon Kay has today been confirmed as the face of Formula E for Season Four for the channel.

Cutting his teeth in the broadcasting world with his own radio show on BBC Radio 1, Kay has since hosted everything from Channel 4's coverage of the NFL and Sky Sports' coverage of the Golf Sixes to high profile entertainment shows such as ITV's Splash! and Channel 4's T4 - the forerunner to its E4 brand.

"Formula E remains an incredible spectacle within the world of motorsport", says Kay. "I can’t wait to get track-side and present all the electric action, right from the heart of these amazing cities."

Adding to Channel 5's sporting portfolio, which already consists of live boxing, MotoGP highlights and the World Rally Championship series, all 14 Formula E races will be broadcast on the channel, including live coverage from selected races. “I’m delighted to welcome Vernon to the Channel 5 family. He’s a hugely talented broadcaster with a genuine passion for this exciting and fast developing sport.” said Caj Sohal, Head of Sport for Channel 5.

Joining the series just weeks away from the season opener in Hong Kong on the 2 and 3 December 2017, "Kay will be heading up the team presenting Formula E on Channel 5," said Ali Russell, Media & Business Development Director at Formula E. "We are excited to bring fans closer to the action than ever before with even more in-depth coverage.”

With 14 races in 11 cities on five continents, Season Four sees the addition of Santiago, Sao Palo, Rome and Zurich to the race calendar. With Lucas di Grassi looking to defend his title as current Champion from closest rival Sebastien Buemi, the jury's out as to who'll set the pace in Hong Kong. There’s also set to be continued interest for UK viewers this year, in the form of the first all-British driver line-up, with Formula E veteran Sam Bird joined by Alex Lynn at Virgin Racing.
